Corporate Social Responsibility in the UK

Corporate Social Responsibility

All of our UK companies work together on initiatives that contribute to sustainable economic development – working with employees, their families, the local community and society at large to improve quality of life, in ways that are both good for business and good for development.

In the UK, we support the national charity, Sue Ryder Care, which provides expert care for people living with cancer, multiple sclerosis and brain injury and other such conditions. Sue Ryder Care helps to give back the dignity, independence and confidence that their disease takes away, enriching people’s lives and those of their families.

In 2009 we aimed to raise £30,000 for Sue Ryder Care through a series of events and activities. In September 2009, 24 MetLife employees volunteered to take on one of the UK’s hardest challenges - The 24 Peaks Challenge and raised over £24,000.

We also support local charities such as Trees for Cities and MetLife employees have been part of a number charitable events, including 5K runs, the London Marathon, 300Km Cycle rides, parachute jumps and much more.

Alongside our charity work we also focus on encouraging wise environmental stewardship by informing staff of initiatives which promote environmental sustainability such as energy saving, recycling and reducing our carbon footprint. This been a successful initiative and we have not only increased the amount we recycle but we have also switched to fair-trade, renewable and recycled consumables.

We are proud to have our community and social responsibility at the heart of our working culture.
